YA Novel

Something Wicked…

Something Wicked is a book for anyone who loves the supernatural and all the dark lust and evil which comes with the nightlife they live in.
There are lots of elements to this book, quite literally!
Witches being able to control the weather and cause mass destruction! T.r.kester explains every fight and every earth shattering experience in this book to the max. I’m reading it and I feel as though I am there in the middle of all the chaos! Which is amazing, every punch throwing I’m scrunching up my face as if I could feel the impact myself!
But it wasn’t all brutal, their is a lot of beautiful description throughout the book about the characters themselves – I must admit I highlighted a whole two pages at one point because the words t.r.kester used to describe everything were stunning and read almost like poetry!
The start of the book was very promising, likewise the interesting ending! However I do feel throughout the middle section of the book I got a little lost by the mass amount of characters and all their supernatural powers, although saying that there is a character profile blog at the back of the book! But throughout this sections of the book I felt like this book would really work well as a TV program, maybe it would be easier to follow in that way as you’d be able to recognise faces more and see their powers etc.
Yet saying that I still enjoyed the experience and getting to know the main characters, I can not wait to see how things will turn out in the next book as everything has quite literally gone crazy and I don’t know how they can pull it all together!
It’s definitely worth the read if you are into the dark nightlife of the supernatural begins!

You can find the author on instagram at @t.r.kester and more importantly buy this fab book on amazon!!

YA Novel

Wunderkids – Oh the WUNDERS of this book…

Could this be the next BIG SHOT Netflix Series?… Because in my honest opinion, this book has every chance of becoming that big!

Snap from my Insta – how gorgeous is this cover?

First of all let me give you the low down on this book – set in a jaw dropping mountains of California, Wildwood Academy One of the undoubtfully most prestigious boarding schools in the country, Sits. Quite happily, with their stick rules and exceptional students all lead by The Dean.

Nikka is the main character, aged 15 and is used to packing up her stuff and moving town with her ambitions mother whom she loves very dearly. The two of them have a very unique relationship since Nikkas fathers death in war. Nikka has an incredible gift where she can remember anything from glance, her art is beyond anyone else’s – This was her lucky talent which got her into Wildwood.

However during her time at Wildwood, things come to the surface – unpleasant and dark things. Which eventually Nikka makes the decision that her life and those she lovers are in danger.

The writing in this book pleasantly surprised me!

Jacky’s writing meets the standard of those who write bestsellers, something I think this book has the potential to achieve in June when the paperback comes out! But there’s something so effortless when you read her writing, it flows and makes the book fast paced. Their are some beautiful lines of description, never the pass passages of text which you sometimes find in books. You as a reader are able to paint the picture clearly in your head with every scene written, like Nikka painting every detail in her batailisme classes.

In this book there is the best unique group of friends. Something you wouldn’t normally see in real life because of how unusual the mix is, however saying that it is a very realistic in the book because of the type of school they go too. Basically no one is ‘normal’ Which I think is great. As they all have different personalities making them bounce of each other but sometimes not in a good way too.

They all have their flaws, own insecurities and hearts, making them real and characters who we can actually relate to and understand their actions.

What I love about each character is their own different sense of humour, it’s hilarious and the ‘banter’ between them all just makes you laugh out loud when reading.

“A gambler and a thief,” she whispered, “How very Poetic”

There is romance in this book which is mysterious and has your toes curling and has you biting you lips with excitement and ‘fangirl/boy’ None of it seems forced like sometimes a ‘love triangle is’ the tense between the two boys after Nikka’s heart also is very funny and makes it harder for you as a reader to chose who you’d prefer or as in our fangirl/boy language – ‘our ship’ & ‘one true partner’

I personally just love them both!

The Dark Twisting Story

The first half of the book – Is more focused on developing the friendships and Nikka ‘finding her feet’ in the new school. However there a odd things which keep happening and you start to question what is it?

The final half of the book – When you hit halfway through book you will not be able to put the book down. I could almost bet on it! Everything starts to make sense, the author really pulls things together, IN A VERY DRAMATIC WAY! But its great! It’s fast paced, you feel like your physically running with them! If your anything like me your face will pull many expressions while reading, I almost cried and choked on my own breathe at one point!

Staring – 5/5 stars!

This book deserves every inch of those five stars, if you love romance, mysterious, dystopian, thrilling funny stories I’d 100% recommend!

This book is on ebooks and amazon, simply search ‘wunderkids’ – Jacqueline Sylvester! It’s currently only 99p!!

In June the book will be out in paperback – so expected many more pictures on here and my Instagram with the beautiful cover!

The author is also planning on making ‘bookish candles’ and other merch for this book, which I definitely will be buying!

Book Wrap Up, Uncategorized

WB #1 – April Wrap Up?

The reason why I’m questioning this ‘Wrap up’ is because I feel as though I didn’t really read much…

Although I did. But me being me, couldn’t stick at one at just one book. Oh I sound like such a book whore. But it’s true!

PreTty ShOckING! :

  • 1 book read (wunderkinds)
  • 2 books half read (celestial & Book Thief)
  • 1 reread not read but HALF read (acomaf)

I had planned to finish of Celestial which I started ages ago, Hollow City (though I was only 5 pages in) and my re-read of Acomaf ( In preparation for Acowar ) (OH MY DAYS)

Decided to pick up The Book Thief and Wunderkids by Jacqueline Silvster..

I only managed to finish Wunderkids (FAB 5 STAR WATCH OUT FOR WRITTEN REVIEW SOON)

Next month will be so much better, because ACOWAR!

Contemporary Novels

Everything, Everything Review! (SF)

Oh how I want everything from this book!

I had to have these colourful roses in the picture! Snap from my Instagram!

First of all I’m going to tell you all that I broke a world record! For me – Jessica! BECAUSE I actually read this book in two hours! Now if that doesn’t show how amazing this book is and how it takes everything from you, then I’m sure if you read on you’ll understand!

Soon to be 18 years old Maddy still hasn’t stepped a foot outdoors and why? Because of her rare condition which in her words means if she were to step outdoors ‘My head would explode. Or my lungs. Or my heart.” Or at least that is what she says when she jokes with Olly. The boy next door – who changes her whole view on life and on how to live it.

What I loved about this book!

Was definitely Nicola Yoon’s unique style of writing. Well, for me only just starting to really read more contemporary novels it was an unique book to read. It did have comparisons to ‘where rainbows end’ by Cecelia Ahern In the fact some parts were writing in the style of emails and instant messenger. But this book was so much more than just those two forms. It had the normal first POV from Maddy’s eyes but also Daily Health Logs, Old Diary Entries, Online Web Screenshots, Neighbourhood Watch, Project Drawings and my favourite Maddy’s reviews on books…

Life is Short – Picture by me.

They are so funny to read and are little round offs or an hint of what the next chapter will be like!

I think this unique style of writing really makes the book fast paced and makes you understand Maddy more as a person than just a character in a book…

The main character is obviously Maddy, then there’s Olly, then Carla Maddy’s nurse who is like a second ‘mom’ to Maddy and finally her mother who loves her with all her heart.

A snap from google of the actors playing Olly and Maddy in the upcoming movie! DID I MENTION THERE WILL BE A MOVIE?:D

Maddy sure wasn’t the only girl falling for Olly, am I right readers?

I felt as though the character ‘Olly’ was a bit of a cliché ‘grunge, all in black, super hot kind of guy with a mysterious backstory’ BUT did I care about this? No! I think if he was different from this typical image and persona I probably wouldn’t like him as much as I do now! His character didn’t change Maddy, it was the love between them which opened her eyes and allowed her never to go back or have less… she wanted everything.

I was genuinely surprised with the character Maddy, in a good way! Throughout the book you see her grow and become stronger in many different ways. It’s like watching her mature in your mind into a young adult, despite the fact we all know that love can make you naïve.

Her uniqueness and difference from most girls her age is what made her seem unrealistic but realistic? She didn’t care about body image about how her thighs were curvy yet she still liked to wear things which complimented her. Which in the sad truth of society these days because for some girls more than likely body image becomes an obsession you see it all over the media. Yet Maddy has something special about her in the fact that something like body image doesn’t bother her, she just wants to breathe the air that we all do.

And if I’m honest I don’t really know how to explain it, because Maddy is unique and I think that may be why I adore her and see her more as a person than just a character like I said before, you really get a understanding of who she is in this book and that’s kind of magical. Because Nicola Yoon didn’t hide anything, which made rooting for Maddy so simple and sweet.

Staring – 4.9/5!

The only let down in this book was the ending. I’m not going to spoil it for you, you have to read it to find out what I mean. I just hope that in the movie they extend it a bit, because this book will make you want everything from it and that was the only part where it lacked… But I guess it just made us hunger for more.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed!

Love Jessica,
