Weekly Blabber – LIFE UPDATE (September 13/17)

I have been gone for so long! I know I have and I am truly sorry!

Life likes to make me crazy busy and with heading back to ballet school and finally arriving and settling in again I’ve hardly had anytime to myself!

Do you know the last time I picked up a book and read for a long time? BECAUSE I CAN NOT REMEMBER! however I do have three new books that I am planning on reading throughout September!

  • Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas
  • Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo
  • The Crowns of Croswald by D.E Night

To be honest I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to read them all but hopefully I will finish at least one of them!

Today I found the time to put on my wall most of my artwork I’ve been given the past year, each piece means so much to me! I love them all from my best friend who drew me four beautiful pictures for my birthday, to my boyfriend who drew the earth fae, to the fanart and fandom art from the lovely bookstagram community!

Can’t wait till I can bring more up in half term!

YA Novel

Secrets Of The Tally – What is this Amazing Authors Secret?

A story filled with Dragons, Magic, Warriors – Escali Vs Humans… This book has EVERYTHING a fantasy lover LOVES in a book!

Picture of the back cover from my Insta – how gorgeous!

This story follows the life of Allie – who mysteriously wakes up in danger and follows to live the life of someone who is always in danger and is always fighting for herself, her family and friends. But what is unique about Allie – not only is she the most skilled fighter about… But she also has no idea who she is other than the fact her name is Allie.

A Fantasy World like no other I’ve ever read

AND TRUST ME! I’VE READ A LOT! I loved how original this book is! The whole concept of the two races in the book going head to head ‘supernatural’ vs ‘normal’ (Or in other words, Escali vs. Humans) is something you commonly see in Fantasy books but with Halie’s amazing writing it didn’t feel like a cliché. It follows no trend, It’s purely its own breed and that’s something which I sometimes find hard to come across in the YA Fantasy Genre!

Beautiful Bookmark of Allie I got from the author! (Snap from my Insta)

Reading Allie’s story is unique to other books I have read because not only are we as readers trying to finding out who she is, she herself is also trying. I feel like this makes us as readers appreciate the story more as we ourselves feel like we are by Allie’s side seeing her grow and find herself.

Allie is a mysterious character. That is what draws us into the book in the first place, but what makes us stay is the fact she is flawed and real. Maybe the fact Halie writes in first person but I seemed to develop the same feelings as Allie & experienced them. When she was embarrassed I found myself embarrassed, when she was excited I found myself rooting her on. Halie makes a fantastic connection with her wonderful writing but more so with her characters. Allie was not the only one I found myself attached too.

I adore how the start of every chapter a dagger was merged with the first letter! Little clever creative details!

The Writing

I adore how Halie wrote this book, the way it was structured was so satisfying because it wasn’t massive chunks of text. It read with such flow and there was never a gap in the story however it didn’t feel as though Halie was dragging out the story!

5/5 stars

Halie’s love for this story and her characters is obvious when you read this book, she started writing this story when she was 12 and reading the book you honestly can feel that she writes with all her heart and passion.

This book will be special to me for probably all my life because Halie made her dream into a reality… If you are like me and want to be a fantasy ya author one day… read this book. There haven’t been many books which have really made me believe maybe I could one day get a book published but this book has inspired me to never give up.

So I thank Halie for giving me this book for an honest review, because reading it has made an impact into my own writing journey. I can not wait for the second book and you reading this review should so check it out!

YA Novel

Something Wicked…

Something Wicked is a book for anyone who loves the supernatural and all the dark lust and evil which comes with the nightlife they live in.
There are lots of elements to this book, quite literally!
Witches being able to control the weather and cause mass destruction! T.r.kester explains every fight and every earth shattering experience in this book to the max. I’m reading it and I feel as though I am there in the middle of all the chaos! Which is amazing, every punch throwing I’m scrunching up my face as if I could feel the impact myself!
But it wasn’t all brutal, their is a lot of beautiful description throughout the book about the characters themselves – I must admit I highlighted a whole two pages at one point because the words t.r.kester used to describe everything were stunning and read almost like poetry!
The start of the book was very promising, likewise the interesting ending! However I do feel throughout the middle section of the book I got a little lost by the mass amount of characters and all their supernatural powers, although saying that there is a character profile blog at the back of the book! But throughout this sections of the book I felt like this book would really work well as a TV program, maybe it would be easier to follow in that way as you’d be able to recognise faces more and see their powers etc.
Yet saying that I still enjoyed the experience and getting to know the main characters, I can not wait to see how things will turn out in the next book as everything has quite literally gone crazy and I don’t know how they can pull it all together!
It’s definitely worth the read if you are into the dark nightlife of the supernatural begins!

You can find the author on instagram at @t.r.kester and more importantly buy this fab book on amazon!!

Have you read acowar yet?

YA Novel

Wunderkids – Oh the WUNDERS of this book…

Could this be the next BIG SHOT Netflix Series?… Because in my honest opinion, this book has every chance of becoming that big!

IMG_9680 (2).PNG
Snap from my Insta – how gorgeous is this cover?

First of all let me give you the low down on this book – set in a jaw dropping mountains of California, Wildwood Academy One of the undoubtfully most prestigious boarding schools in the country, Sits. Quite happily, with their stick rules and exceptional students all lead by The Dean.

Nikka is the main character, aged 15 and is used to packing up her stuff and moving town with her ambitions mother whom she loves very dearly. The two of them have a very unique relationship since Nikkas fathers death in war. Nikka has an incredible gift where she can remember anything from glance, her art is beyond anyone else’s – This was her lucky talent which got her into Wildwood.

However during her time at Wildwood, things come to the surface – unpleasant and dark things. Which eventually Nikka makes the decision that her life and those she lovers are in danger.

The writing in this book pleasantly surprised me!

Jacky’s writing meets the standard of those who write bestsellers, something I think this book has the potential to achieve in June when the paperback comes out! But there’s something so effortless when you read her writing, it flows and makes the book fast paced. Their are some beautiful lines of description, never the pass passages of text which you sometimes find in books. You as a reader are able to paint the picture clearly in your head with every scene written, like Nikka painting every detail in her batailisme classes.

In this book there is the best unique group of friends. Something you wouldn’t normally see in real life because of how unusual the mix is, however saying that it is a very realistic in the book because of the type of school they go too. Basically no one is ‘normal’ Which I think is great. As they all have different personalities making them bounce of each other but sometimes not in a good way too.

They all have their flaws, own insecurities and hearts, making them real and characters who we can actually relate to and understand their actions.

What I love about each character is their own different sense of humour, it’s hilarious and the ‘banter’ between them all just makes you laugh out loud when reading.

“A gambler and a thief,” she whispered, “How very Poetic”

There is romance in this book which is mysterious and has your toes curling and has you biting you lips with excitement and ‘fangirl/boy’ None of it seems forced like sometimes a ‘love triangle is’ the tense between the two boys after Nikka’s heart also is very funny and makes it harder for you as a reader to chose who you’d prefer or as in our fangirl/boy language – ‘our ship’ & ‘one true partner’

I personally just love them both!

The Dark Twisting Story

The first half of the book – Is more focused on developing the friendships and Nikka ‘finding her feet’ in the new school. However there a odd things which keep happening and you start to question what is it?

The final half of the book – When you hit halfway through book you will not be able to put the book down. I could almost bet on it! Everything starts to make sense, the author really pulls things together, IN A VERY DRAMATIC WAY! But its great! It’s fast paced, you feel like your physically running with them! If your anything like me your face will pull many expressions while reading, I almost cried and choked on my own breathe at one point!

Staring – 5/5 stars!

This book deserves every inch of those five stars, if you love romance, mysterious, dystopian, thrilling funny stories I’d 100% recommend!

This book is on ebooks and amazon, simply search ‘wunderkids’ – Jacqueline Sylvester! It’s currently only 99p!!

In June the book will be out in paperback – so expected many more pictures on here and my Instagram with the beautiful cover!

The author is also planning on making ‘bookish candles’ and other merch for this book, which I definitely will be buying!

You can find the author on Instagram at – jchoulji

Book Wrap Up, Uncategorized

WB #1 – April Wrap Up?

The reason why I’m questioning this ‘Wrap up’ is because I feel as though I didn’t really read much…

Although I did. But me being me, couldn’t stick at one at just one book. Oh I sound like such a book whore. But it’s true!

PreTty ShOckING! :

  • 1 book read (wunderkinds)

Contemporary Novels

Everything, Everything Review! (SF)

Oh how I want everything from this book!

I had to have these colourful roses in the picture! Snap from my Instagram!

First of all I’m going to tell you all that I broke a world record! For me – Jessica! BECAUSE I actually read this book in two hours! Now if that doesn’t show how amazing this book is and how it takes everything from you, then I’m sure if you read on you’ll understand!

Soon to be 18 years old Maddy still hasn’t stepped a foot outdoors and why? Because of her rare condition which in her words means if she were to step outdoors ‘My head would explode. Or my lungs. Or my heart.” Or at least that is what she says when she jokes with Olly. The boy next door – who changes her whole view on life and on how to live it.

What I loved about this book!

Was definitely Nicola Yoon’s unique style of writing. Well, for me only just starting to really read more contemporary novels it was an unique book to read. It did have comparisons to ‘where rainbows end’ by Cecelia Ahern In the fact some parts were writing in the style of emails and instant messenger. But this book was so much more than just those two forms. It had the normal first POV from Maddy’s eyes but also Daily Health Logs, Old Diary Entries, Online Web Screenshots, Neighbourhood Watch, Project Drawings and my favourite Maddy’s reviews on books…

Life is Short – Picture by me.

They are so funny to read and are little round offs or an hint of what the next chapter will be like!

I think this unique style of writing really makes the book fast paced and makes you understand Maddy more as a person than just a character in a book…

The main character is obviously Maddy, then there’s Olly, then Carla Maddy’s nurse who is like a second ‘mom’ to Maddy and finally her mother who loves her with all her heart.

A snap from google of the actors playing Olly and Maddy in the upcoming movie! DID I MENTION THERE WILL BE A MOVIE?:D

Maddy sure wasn’t the only girl falling for Olly, am I right readers?

I felt as though the character ‘Olly’ was a bit of a cliché ‘grunge, all in black, super hot kind of guy with a mysterious backstory’ BUT did I care about this? No! I think if he was different from this typical image and persona I probably wouldn’t like him as much as I do now! His character didn’t change Maddy, it was the love between them which opened her eyes and allowed her never to go back or have less… she wanted everything.

I was genuinely surprised with the character Maddy, in a good way! Throughout the book you see her grow and become stronger in many different ways. It’s like watching her mature in your mind into a young adult, despite the fact we all know that love can make you naïve.

Her uniqueness and difference from most girls her age is what made her seem unrealistic but realistic? She didn’t care about body image about how her thighs were curvy yet she still liked to wear things which complimented her. Which in the sad truth of society these days because for some girls more than likely body image becomes an obsession you see it all over the media. Yet Maddy has something special about her in the fact that something like body image doesn’t bother her, she just wants to breathe the air that we all do.

And if I’m honest I don’t really know how to explain it, because Maddy is unique and I think that may be why I adore her and see her more as a person than just a character like I said before, you really get a understanding of who she is in this book and that’s kind of magical. Because Nicola Yoon didn’t hide anything, which made rooting for Maddy so simple and sweet.

Staring – 4.9/5!

The only let down in this book was the ending. I’m not going to spoil it for you, you have to read it to find out what I mean. I just hope that in the movie they extend it a bit, because this book will make you want everything from it and that was the only part where it lacked… But I guess it just made us hunger for more.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed!

Love Jessica,

The story of love, hidden in our galaxies…

@itsourstorynow. About two weeks ago I posted a ‘space theme’ I was so happy with everyone’s ideas but this story really blew me away. It is truly amazing! Thank you @zaib9900 (he is blue) & @caitiesbookcorner (she is green) and I am black! I found the picture from Pinterest I got #feysand feels. Prompt by me!

Now, please enjoy!

The embrace was a merging of souls. From a distance you couldn’t tell where one person started and the other ended.

Softly she cried into him, she was his trigger and he loved her for it.

Boys don’t cry. They aren’t meant for it. They are a heartless species which are born to be strong, athletic and ruthless.

But oh, how he cried holding her.

Holding onto his galaxy.

In the whirlpool of your mind, I am drowning deeper than deeper, where my thoughts still mourning the death and my tears, they always fall over the grave of my love.

I couldn’t handle it. She was the only thing keeping me sane. The tears poured from my eyes as I looked up at her. She was the human incarnation of perfection, the most beautiful and perfect person to ever exist.

I tried to hold on, but she was slipping through my grip. Floating back up to the sky, back to the world she was in-prisoned in. But in that moment I didn’t care what had happened in the past, or what our doomed future had in store for us. As long as I had her, everything was worth it.

Even if I lost myself in the journey she’ll bring me back.

This woman in front of me was my anchor, the only thing keeping me from getting lost.

And I loved her for it.

She was my entire universe.

I couldn’t live without her – to live without her would be madness.

She has a raging, volcanic, phoenix soul… which is fiercer than the sun.

So much brave even lions bow to her bravery.

She shines like a pearl upon the seven seas.

She works through pain and hides it and smiles like she became inspiration and a ray of stories, even pain itself tells her stories.

Calm like cold breeze of winter.

It was like art was describing her.

And the best thing about all of that is she was mine, and I am hers.

To be with her made me the luckiest man alive. Yet in this very moment it didn’t feel as if I was alive. All time had stopped and the world evolved around her. The young woman she used to be was gone. The woman in front of me was the strongest most gorgeous thing I had ever seen. I would never let her go.

But what if she has to or he had to?

In the end when the day comes, the last breathe, when the memories collides with the feeling in your brain, when every pore of you shrieking ‘don’t go I won’t let you’ but one must has to then how can you deal with the inevitable?

There was no choice. If one of us had to go then both of us would go. There was no way I was letting the only thing I love slip away. We didn’t come separately, we came together.

She claimed me as much as I claimed her and god help anyone who tried to break us apart.

She has reminded me the answer which I had forgotten, the fear of losing her clouded my mind but her love was like the first ray of sun after the wild storm she has given me what my ears were thirsty for, it wasn’t just the two bodies who felt in love it was our souls and even after death our love will, will go on.

I would search though every world and every universe until I would find her again. We were unbreakable. Through the darkest parts of hell and the brightest parts of heaven I would go. Just to find my one true love. We were like two sides of the same coin.

She was life, good and whole.

I was death, bad and broken.

Together we were the only solid thing ever to be seen.

“Christian,” Her voice awoke me from my mind, she peeled back from the embrace only enough so our eyes could connect. The violet of them was like the nights sky, they had the misty glaze of the night’s atmosphere but glittered godly, “You need to go, it’s not safe here,”

 “But you-“

“Christian, sh” She placed a finger on his lips, “I can find you again. Just look up to the stars, I’ll be waiting and watching,”

As she fades away with the last light of the moon, filling up the hollow shell to carry on the burden of what he lost. Sitting next to her grave feeding the pigeons but not in tears, not in sorrow, not in grief,

Because she was holding his hand and sitting right next to him the feeling of her soul around him made him smile.

For a while he thought she had gone. But she had never left. She was always with him. Watching over him and waiting for him to find her. There love was undying and they would find each other no matter what.

In the end peace grasped them both.

And if you look up in the sky on a starry night, you will find their love in the constellations.

Thank you so much for Bobby & Caitlin again who created this beautiful love story, I can not expression how touching it is and raw!

Please leave comments if you wish, until next time x

Lily Collins – Unfiltered Review (Spoil Free)

No Shame, No Regrets, Just me… Tearing up, tissue in hand reading this beautiful book.

Lily Collins Unfiltered, front cover
Insta snap on my account! (I fangirled like crazy after Lily liked the picture!)

First of all I need to let you know a little bit about myself, HOW I ADORE LILY COLLINS! Ever since The City of Bones movie (despite how awful the film was compared to the books) LILY made me fall in love with her while she played the role of Clary! If only Lily played Clary in Shadowhunters the Netflix Original I might actually watch it…

BUT ever since that day many years ago I HAVE NEVER stopped loving Lily, following her on all Social Media, supporting her in her upcoming movies, photoshoots and life in general! She inspired me each day and made me happy with reading the captions in her Instagram posts.

At the start of each chapter Lily gives us cute, funny, little quotes which give us a taster of the content in the next chapter!

Another snap of mine of one of my favourite quotes from the book!

The seventeen chapters which make up this book are little insides of Lily’s life and how she became the woman she is today. It wasn’t the easy journey of ‘travelling all the time’ kinda lifestyle or ‘born into fame’ like some including me thought. Because Celebrities always seem to have it easy? Well as people say don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Lily talks about a variety of topics: Uniqueness, Self-belief, Family, Relationships (Good & Bad), Eating Disorders, Pressures of life and Finding Happiness.

In all the YouTube clips I have watched Lily always talks about how ‘raw’ the book is, I can confirm 110% but I cried so much during this. Even though its 221 pages, I could of finished it easily in a day but I wanted to read the chapters and absorb them, reading it was like Lily was talking to me, I read it in her voice and it felt almost personal.

This book is sure to inspire and relate to plenty of teenagers, I could relate to it and if it was out a few years ago I think it would of helped me then too. It’s a book which I can go back, flip the page to any random chapter and feel happy as soon as I read the first sentence.

Totally worth the read x

Caraval Book Review

Remember, it’s only a game…

One crucial piece of information to remember while reading Caraval following the twisting fantasy story written by the incredible Stephanie Garber.

If you have read the synopsis you will know the story follows the story of two sisters – Scarlet & Tella. Two sisters who have never left the tiny Island of Trisda but have been longing to experience the Caraval. Things change when one day they get delivered an invitation admiting the pair of them tickets and another for Scarlet’s court arranged fiancé – although things don’t go to plan and the sisters end up at the Caraval with a sailer called Julian who is not Scarlets future partner. But regardless Scarlet is left with Julian while they search to find Tella. But things dramatically change when the aim of the game this year is to actually find Tella as she’s been ‘kidnapped’ But real or not Scarlet must find her or Tella will disappear forever.

Map of Caraval

Stephanie Garber with her twisting story line and addictive characters saved me from my reading slump… but however I worry now she may have also created me to be stuck in the Caraval, replaying the story over and over again like the 5 nights of the Caraval.

Garber wrote the whole story in Scarlets POV, however you felt as though you knew both sisters equally as well, this was done to the incredible sisterbond Garber created clearly shown in Scarlets thoughts and actions with Tella. From myself having a sister as well I could relate to the bond and it didn’t surprise me that when I researched Garber that she has a sister as well.

It wasn’t just the belivable sisterbond it was the characters themselves whom Garber developed throughout the book amazingly changing them from weak to strong and vulnerable to untouchable. If you love #strongfemalecharacters this book has two of them!

Book photoshoot. Showing the alternate cover for Caraval.

Not only did I find the Dragna sisters great but the mysterious characters whom you meet throughout Scarlets search for clues during the Caraval. We meet Julian, Dante & the Legend… Garber creates confusion for Scarlet between these three handsome characters in many different ways. Just as you start to think you know them and what they are up too she throws you completely off course making you search desperately through the dialogue and their actions like your the player searching for clues yourself!

With the ‘Magic’ of the book it reminded me of Walt Disney in more than one way as if it was just a theme park! Castillo Maldito a castle of sorts on its own island reminded me much of the famous Disney Castle because of how magically it is, The Carousel of Roses could simple be a ride in the park? The people playing the game with Scarlet could just be tourists wanting to meet and watch the fantastic performers?  The boy selling the magic cider with the monkey on his shoulder… was he inspired by Alladin?

If this allowed me to write more I think I would write a whole book on how amazing this book was. Without doubt 5/5 stars. I recommend it to anyone who loves magical storylines with lots of twists and a bit of romance throwing in!

Please feel free to leave your own comments on this book below! I hope you enjoyed my review as much as I did writing it!
